Arcadia Nostra presents work by Lieven Decabooter, Anthony Duffeleer, Stephan Vanfleteren, Renato Nicolodi, Erwin Olaf and Guy Slabbinck, curated by Klaus Verscheure. The exhibition reveals the artists’ urge to create an idealized vision in a world that is constantly shifting and transforming. While classical Arcadia was an unattainable literary paradise, this exhibition asks: what remains of that ideal in our contemporary, fragmented reality?
The artworks in this show are traces of each artist’s search for their paradise. They present a contemporary worldview that carries echoes of the crises and conflicts surrounding us. Paradise lingers in the background, yet never feels immediately accessible.
The works in Arcadia Nostra balance on the threshold between utopia and reality, offering us a gateway toward escape, toward a moment of pure escapism.
